UKATA receives high commendation

We were thrilled to hear a few days ago that the UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) has been highly commended in the Senior Leadership Engagement Award category at The Impact Awards, hosted by mental health charity, Mates in Mind.

For anyone who is not familiar with the work of UKATA it is the UK’s largest not-for-profit asbestos training association and we are incredibly proud to be one of its approved members.

Being a UKATA Approved Training Provider shows that Acorn Analytical Services is committed to delivering the highest standards of asbestos training in accordance with the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation.

Along with UKATA’s other approved members we help to train more than 200,000 delegates every year in a variety of topics, including asbestos awareness.

We are passionate about providing face-to-face UKATA asbestos awareness training because we know it promotes asbestos safety and helps to save lives.

Sadly, asbestos remains the world’s biggest workplace killer and despite the fact its use here was banned more than two decades ago its presence lingers in many of our buildings and is still putting workers at risk from fatal diseases.

This is why it is so important that asbestos awareness training is given to all employees whose work could disturb the fabric of a building and potentially expose them to asbestos.

It should also be given to those who supervise or influence any such work and the Regulations’ Approved Code of Practice recommends a refresher course should be undertaken at least once a year.

Asbestos awareness training is particularly important for staff working in the refurbishment, maintenance and allied construction trades.

We’re not just talking about demolition and construction workers here. It also applies to the likes of general maintenance staff, electricians, plumbers and gas fitters, painters, decorators, joiners and plasterers, roofing contractors, heating, ventilation and telecommunication engineers, fire and burglar alarm installers, architects and building surveyors and shopfitters.

As well as being UKATA approved trainers, all our trainers have more than a decade of experience of working in the asbestos industry. As a result, our comprehensive half-day training courses are interactive and delegates have the opportunity to ask any questions they have to enable them to fully understand what they need to do to keep themselves and others safe.

During the course delegates will learn about the negative health effects and dangers associated with asbestos. They will also discover what asbestos is, where it was commonly used and what products contain it and learn about emergency procedures and basic asbestos management.

Anyone who trains with us will receive their UKATA asbestos awareness training certificate within 24 hours of passing the course.
