Meet Dave, Dan and Lewis – Acorn’s amazing Movember heroes

Our Movember heroes, Lewis, Dave and Dan

AS we start November, Acorn Analytical Services is very proud to be supporting Movember, the annual charity event which shines a spotlight on men’s health, in particular, mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

We pride ourselves on being at the heart of our community and we always try to give back whenever we can.

As well as sponsoring local youth football and rugby teams including Northampton Old Scouts Rugby Football Club, we also take our charity work very seriously, supporting charities close to heart including Mesothelioma UK which does so much to support people who are affected by the deadly cancer which is caused by prolonged exposure to asbestos fibres.

Throughout November, men across the UK will be growing moustaches to highlight these important issues.

We believe it’s vital for all of us to take a mo-ment to think about men’s health.

Taking the time to highlight men’s health this Movember

Three members of our team, Senior Asbestos Surveyor, Daniel Crask, Contracts Manager, David Kelsey and Regional Manager, Lewis Scott, are supporting Movember by growing mos in support of bros.

Daniel said: “Mental health has always meant a lot to me. I did a charity run for Mental Health UK two years ago and I always like to try and do something.”

The figures around men’s health are shocking.

Typically, men die around five years earlier than women. Men also account for 69% of all suicides.

We also know that men are more likely to die from mesothelioma, due to the higher numbers of men who were traditionally employed in the construction industry, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s when the use of asbestos was at its highest.

We’re so proud of Dan and Dave for highlighting these important issues and we’re looking forward to tracking their progress and seeing how their moustaches look later on in the month.

Acorn Analytical Services: One team, one family

At Acorn, we take the wellbeing of our team very seriously, which is why events such Movember are so important to us.

As a traditionally male-dominated industry, we are well aware that men sometimes find it difficult to talk, but at Acorn we want to do everything we can to encourage everyone to be open and honest about how they are feeling.

We know that every member of our team plays an important role in Acorn’s success and everybody’s contribution is valued. We work hard to ensure everyone has a good work life balance and is fully supported in the work they do.

We were delighted to win the Employer of the Year award at the Northamptonshire SME’s earlier this year in recognition of the work we do to develop and encourage all our staff.

Movember: Help us to make a difference

While everyone at Acorn Analytical Services will be supporting Dan and Dave, we would be delighted if you could too. Every pound and every penny will help to make an enormous difference to the lives of men right across the UK.

You’ll find all the information you need to donate and help support more than 1,200 charities across the UK at uk.movember.com

And if you want to track Dan and Dave’s progress, you’ll find updates on our LinkedIn page.
