Is your business fully compliant with the latest asbestos regulations?

Asbestos: Dispelling 3 common myths

HOW much do you really know about asbestos?

If your building was built before 1999, have you ever had it checked?

If you know it’s there, do you know for sure that you’re compliant with the latest rules and regulations around asbestos management?

If the answer to either of these questions is ‘no’ it’s time to take action.

At Acorn Analytical Services, we’re perfectly placed to help you with our compliance health checks which we are offering free of charge to businesses around Northamptonshire, and the surrounding area, to mark Northampton’s 10th anniversary.

Asbestos: Compliance is key

Strict regulations around exposure to asbestos were first introduced in 1931 and they have been revised many times since.

In 1985 asbestos prohibition laws were passed, but it wasn’t until 1999 that imports and its use in new buildings were banned completely.

Today, we’re still living with the legacy of the past and there is still an awful lot of this hazardous material contained within buildings that has the potential to do us all some serious harm.

The latest set of regulations – The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 – came into force on April 12, 2012 and there are six main points which everyone should be aware of:

  • The Duty to Manage Asbestos in Non-Domestic Premises
  • Identification of the Presence of Asbestos
  • Licensing of Work
  • Notification of Work
  • Information, Instruction and Training
  • Prohibition

In short, the regulations set out your legal duties and offer practical advice on how you should comply. They also offer minimum standard for ensuring you protect your employees from any potential exposure.

Understanding the regulations isn’t easy, particularly if you have a business to run and time is short.

This is where Acorn Analytical Services and our team of experts come in.

FREE compliance health checks to resolve your asbestos headaches for good

There has never been a more important time to get on top of asbestos.

If it is damaged or fractured in any way, fibres can be released into the air significantly increasing the risk of people nearby developing mesothelioma – a deadly cancer which affects the lungs and stomach.

With much of the asbestos contained with our buildings starting to age and decay, we believe the risks are now much higher, which is why it makes sense to get your building checked out by a trained professional as quickly as possible.

That’s why, for a limited time, we’re offering FREE compliance health checks to help you understand how your business complies with the latest regulations.

Our team of experts will take the time to visit your premises and give you professional advice about how to manage any problems we may find safely.

There’s no catch – it’s all part of our commitment to raise awareness of asbestos within the business community and give people the information they need to protect themselves and reduce the risks.
