Asbestos training: Acorn Analytical Services launches free session to build knowledge among architects

Asbestos training

ASBESTOS has once again dominated the headlines this week reaffirming our worst fears that the UK is in the grip of an asbestos epidemic.

Many older buildings, including factories, schools and hospitals, contain this dangerous material which over time is starting to degrade.

It’s a ticking timebomb and, as one of the UK’s leading consultancies, we see it as our duty to do everything we can to raise awareness of the devastating effects of asbestos and the steps we must all take now to avoid an emergency.

Education and training are a critical part of this process, and Acorn Analytical Services is very proud to be able to offer a free course aimed at architects to help them build on their knowledge.

What is Acorn Analytical Services offering?

The hour-long course, which is completely free, will cover everything there is to know about asbestos including:

  • Asbestos products and uses
  • Survey types and what to expect
  • Survey process and annual requirements
  • Surveyor competence what to check
  • Contractor competence and what to check
  • Survey report expectations
  • Main regulation points
  • A Q&A session

The sessions can be carried out in the comfort of your own office avoiding the need for yourself, or your team to travel, and they will be led by our friendly team of experts who are all fully-trained and UKAS-accredited. Everyone who attends will receive a certificate and a copy of the course.

There are no hidden costs and no catch.

Why now?

More than 20 years after asbestos was banned in new buildings in the UK, it is still a problem.

It often lies hidden away in older buildings for many years, but can very quickly become a serious risk to health if it is accidently damaged or fractured as part of everyday wear and tear.

Asbestos is made up millions of natural fibres which can cause cancers including mesothelioma if they are released into the air and breathed in by people nearby. Any building built before 2000 could contain this hazardous material, the only way to know for sure is by carrying out a full survey before carrying out any building work or repairs.

We recommend that businesses put asbestos right at the very top of their agenda. If it is found in a survey, a management plan needs to be put in place urgently to ensure it is monitored regularly.

Failure to do so could prove to be a costly mistake, both in terms of your business and its activity, but also by compromising the health and safety of those around you.
