Asbestos Management Surveys – Case Study
CLIENT PROFILE
Who are the Environmental Agency?
The Environmental Agency were established in 1996 to protect and improve the environment where we all live. They have offices spread across the country who manage and monitor treatment of contaminated land, water quality and resource and conservation and ecology. They are responsible for the upkeep of water pumping stations, sluices and water control stations.
BUSINESS NEED
How do we help the Environmental Agency?
The introduction of Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 places an explicit duty on the owners and occupiers to assess and manage the risks from the presence of asbestos.
The Environmental Agency recognised that these regulations cover the buildings which they are responsible for and required an asbestos consultancy who were able to deliver asbestos management surveys across their portfolio of specialist sites.
The scope of the works required was to carry out asbestos management surveys to positively identify asbestos containing materials (ACMs). Samples were required to be taken where safe access was possible to confirm the type, extent and condition of asbestos present. Asbestos management surveys were required to be carried out by a UKAS accredited organisation in accordance with ISO 17020. Sample testing was required to be carried out by a UKAS accredited laboratory in accordance with ISO 17025.
An asbestos register with associated material risk assessments were required to be created together with associated plans of each site.
