Staff from Acorn Analytical Services are undertaking a challenge which will see them walk 100 miles in 12 hours in aid of three charities close to the team’s hearts.
The walk around Northampton is the final event for the team at Acorn, who pledged at the beginning of the year to complete ten fundraising challenges in 2025 to raise £6,000 for three charities – Muscular Dystrophy UK, Mesothelioma UK and Cynthia Spencer Hospice.
The total raised so far is £4,000, so the team are hoping to raise £2,000 through this last challenge and is calling on the community to turn out and support them.
The challenge will start at 12pm on Friday 21st November from the company’s office on Moulton Park, Northampton, and will end at midnight with a victorious return to the office.
Pulling on their trainers to walk 100 miles between them are Acorn’s head of operations Daniel Crask, housing administrator Alex Rust, and data administrator Joshua Cannell.
Daniel said: “We have seen so many great accomplishments from the team this year, including a parachute jump, abseil, half marathon and even a dragon boat race!
“This final event is our big finish and a final push to reach our £6,000 target for some really worthy charities, which were specifically chosen by Acorn staff in a vote.”
The team wanted to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK after sales administrator, Sarah Seal, had two young sons diagnosed with Becker Muscular Dystrophy within weeks of each other last year.
The second charity of choice, Mesothelioma UK, is the only national charity dedicated to supporting people living with mesothelioma – a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos fibres.
Lastly, the team wanted to continue to raise money for its local hospice, Cynthia Spencer Hospice, which means a lot to many of the Acorn staff members.
“We’re really looking forward to what will be a big challenge for myself, Alex and Joshua,” added Daniel.
“We will be sharing our location and live streaming on the Acorn social media platforms throughout the 12 hours and would encourage anyone who wants to walk with us to get involved. Acorn will donate a further £1 per mile for anyone who walks part of the journey with us.”
