Acorn helps boxing legend to launch new centre

Acorn Analytical Services asbestos surveyors Joseph Bell & Daniel Crask at the Frank Bruno Foundation Centre

We are very proud to reveal we have been involved in an exciting new project to help create a new centre backed by none other than boxing legend, Frank Bruno.

The Frank Bruno Foundation exists to provide support and the encouragement to succeed to those facing and recovering from mental ill-health. Its volunteers have worked hard over the past year to create its first UK Round By Round Centre for people with mental health issues which has now opened in Northampton.

Early on in the project to create the centre, we were approached by the charity for help and jumped at the chance to undertake an asbestos refurbishment survey for them, free of charge, before work on the building began.

It’s an honour to know that, thanks to our involvement, the work to transform the Standen Barns Community Centre in Northampton into the Round By Round Centre could go ahead safely. Following the survey, we were able to reassure the charity that none of the volunteers working on the refurbishment or the people who go on to use the centre will be exposed to asbestos.

Now the refurbishment is complete, the centre will offer 12-week courses for people with mental health issues, complemented by a needs-led wraparound support service.

When you consider that the latest figures provided by the NHS state that one in four adults and one in 10 children experience mental illness it becomes startlingly obvious why centres like this one have such important roles to play in our communities. To have had the chance to help with such an important project – particularly in 2020 which was a year filled with anxiety and uncertainty for so many people – was a privilege.

It is not a new thing for us to get involved in our local community. Over the years we have done lots of charity work and provided many donations but I think this project will hold a particularly special place in our hearts.
