Ensuring the delivery of asbestos surveys at the Environment Agency
The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 places an explicit duty on the owners and occupiers to assess and manage the risks from the presence of asbestos.
The scope of the works required was to carry out asbestos management surveys to positively identify asbestos containing materials (ACMs). Samples were required to be taken where safe access was possible to confirm the type, extent and condition of asbestos present. Asbestos management surveys were required to be carried out by a UKAS accredited organisation in accordance with ISO 17020. Sample testing was required to be carried out by a UKAS accredited laboratory in accordance with ISO 17025.
An asbestos register with associated material risk assessments were required to be created together with associated plans of the Site.
Ensuring Northampton Borough Council tenants are safe from disturbing asbestos
After successfully being awarded a three year contract with Northampton Borough Council, we were tasked to undertake between 250 and 300 individual Asbestos Refurbishment Surveys for the council each month. The properties to be surveyed range from small one bedroom flats to large houses of up to six bedrooms, of various ages and types of construction.
The Council requires these surveys for its Decent Homes programme, which it will use to improve the accommodation standards of council-owned properties throughout Northampton. Before any ‘intrusive works’ can be carried out on a property constructed before the year 2000, the law requires such a survey to determine if asbestos is present.
